Hop on Hop off

hopon_bus.jpgSo here I am in Los Cabos, and area that encompasses some 40 miles. But where to begin to explore? Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, what is where? I needed a city tour. Hop on Hop off to the rescue. It was like a guide book come to life.

The tour starts around 9:00am, with pick up at your hotel or at a nearby meeting point. And as promised, the white Hop on Hop off bus appeared at the Puerto Paraiso a few minutes before 9:00am. No "Mexican time" here. Once all of the passengers are aboard the motor coach, the guide begins with a history of the area, staring with the tectonic plates colliding and creating the Baja peninsula.

hopon_guia.jpgOur guide was Rico, a native of Puerto Rico who has lived in Cabo San Lucas for seventeen years. He was full of knowledge on the destination, and ever so patient with the youngster in our group who was a font of questions. From flora, to fauna, to lifestyles of the rich and famous, Rico seemed to know it all.

In San Jose del Cabo do not miss the church (and the grisly story of the Friars) and town square. After that, check out the various art galleries in the area. To cool off try a delicious paleta from La Michocana.

hopon_iglesia.jpgThere is a wealth of shopping options, from typical tourist stuff, to home decor, art, and beach wear. If given the full three hours, a meal will definitely be in order. There is a comfortable little outdoor cafe just next to the church where you can get a cold drink (Corona) and a light meal. The Tropicana Inn Restaurant Bar and Grill (Blvd. Mijares 30) is a quaint place that serves a delicious turkey sandwich, complete with cranberry sauce.

hopon_glass.jpgAfter our time was up we hopped on and were entertained with more information about the destination until we arrived at the blown glass factory in Cabo San Lucas. If you are lucky, like I was, you might get a chance to blow your own glass. (Don't get upset when they break it. It's just to give you the experience.)

Then we hop back on for a quick paseo through downtown Cabo San Lucas, past the marina, and back to Puerto Paraiso where my day began. After just a short time in the destination, I had the feeling that I knew my way around, and had found things I wanted to go back and see.
