Money and Currency Exchange Basics

Your home currency is easily exchanged throughout Los Cabos and US dollars are accepted everywhere. A variety of money exchange options are available such as: banks, ATM's, American Express Offices, and casa de cambios/money exchange houses. That being said, it is not a necessity to exchange dollars for pesos in Los Cabos.

Traditionally, hotels offer the worst exchange rates and should be avoided.

The exchange rates vary hourly as well as daily on the World Exchange. The rates fluctuate constantly, and while this is not normally an issue, it can be quite confusing to some travelers.

One of the worst things you can do is "double exchange" such as convert Canadian Dollars into United States Dollars and then into pesos. It is also not recommended to exchange money into pesos in your home country as you will be charged fees and receive a lesser exchange rate.

To cash a travelers check, you will need a government issued photo identification, such as a drivers license or a passport.

Not all banks exchange currency or cash travels checks for non-annount holders. Ask before you wait in line!

The National Currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso.
