In About Cabo San Lucas.

If you arrive by air or long range bus, you will find yourself in San José del Cabo, one of the Cabos making up Los Cabos. (Cabo means cape and together San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas and everything in between make up Los Cabos).

FONATUR, Mexico's federal tourist development agency, began developing Los Cabos in 1976 because of its unique combination of desert and ocean, and the fact that the area enjoys 360 days of sun annually. Then destination quickly became a haven for fisherman and later for golfers. Today visitors to Los Cabos fish, golf, scuba dive, snorkel, and relax on the golden sand beaches.

Los Cabos hosts 10,000 hotel rooms, with more being added each year. Despite the growth, travelers can still find secluded beaches, without facilities, along the tourist corridor and on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas.

San José del Cabo is home to the San José international airport (SJD), and is 15 minutes from downtown San José del Cabo and 45 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas. The most economical way to get from the airport is a shared shuttle (from $8 to $20 US depending on distance). Rental cars are also available at the airport.

San José del Cabo is a small town, with the Plaza Principal and the church in the center. Along the quiet side streets you will find art galleries, jewelry stores, clothing boutiques, and restaurants. The hotel zone is 10 minutes away, and is home to a variety of all inclusive hotels. There is also a nine hole golf course.

Along the 20 mile stretch between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, known as the tourist corridor, you will find four golf courses, luxury resorts, and boutique hotels. Transportation to either San José del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas is available by bus or taxi.

Cabo San Lucas is where the action is. Here you will find the Puerto Paraiso shopping center, a multi screen movie theater showing first run movies, a marina, restaurants, and a varied nightlife along with pleanty of shopping. The popular Médano beach is also located downtown, offering a myriad of beach clubs, water sports, and boat trips to El Arco, the famous Land's End arch.
